This class includes over 4 hours of information and 63 pages of content in a condensed format so you can quickly learn the most important concepts in understanding pediatric lab ranges.
This module is approved by the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians for 1.0 general continuing education credits (CE). Other integrative medicine providers are welcome, including NP, MD, DO, PA, DC, and allied health providers.
Topics covered:
✅ Understanding markers of thyroid function in children: TSH, fT3, fT4, rT3, including how and when TSH changes in a pediatric patient. How ideal TSH in children can be very different from adult patients.
✅ Presentation of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis in children and adolescents.
✅ Signs of acquired and congenital hypothyroidism in infants, children and adolescents. Additional lab markers for work up of these patients.
✅ Understanding CBC in children, including common conditions like various anemias
✅ Red flags of pediatric cancers, and typical age ranges for common pediatric cancers
✅ Understanding transient erythroblastopenia of childhood.
✅ Commonly missed signs of iron-deficiency anemia in children.
✅ How to work up a child with concerning signs of fatigue.
✅ Identifying glucose abnormalities in children, including laboratory signs of diabetes mellitus, reactive hypoglycemia and DKA.
✅ Identifying very common “abnormal” findings on a comprehensive metabolic panel, including alkaline phosphatase, A/G ratio, BUN/creatinine ratio and more.
✅ Discussion of ideal cholesterol levels in children, especially children with psychiatric issues.
✅ Ideal ferritin ranges in children, and when to order additional iron testing.
✅ Vitamin D testing in children.
